People of Penang

The friendly people of Penang are warm and welcoming of visitors to their multi-cultural island. The busy streets are lined with shops which are organized by trades and with the doors open the shopkeepers interact with the pedestrians. The key to escaping the heavy traffic on the island is riding bikes, scooters or taking a trishaw right down the middle of a congested street.

Street art is everywhere in Penang and a pastime touring around the city trying to spot all the pieces. Especially popular are the 3D street artworks which encourage the viewer to participate and become a piece of the art. In this photo a local tour guide was showing his group how to interact with the artwork. In Penang, it is encouraged to touch the art!
