Cameron Highlands, Malaysia
The Cameron Highlands are only a three-hour drive from Kuala Lumpur but when you arrive there, you feel like you have entered another country. Gone are the humidity and oppressive heat, gone are the steel skyscrapers and concrete streets. Instead you are greeted with crisp cool temperatures, lush green jungle and housing that resembles British colonial cottages. Starting in the 1930s, the British would take a break from Kuala Lumpur and cool off in the Cameron Highlands. Today the Highlands still is a place where Malaysians holiday on weekends and enjoy the waterfalls, rivers, mossy forests, golf course, tea plantations and strawberry farms. The Cameron Highlands is a place to step into the past, cool down and read a good book while sipping some tea.
