Petra, Jordan
The magical lost city of Petra is carved out of the area’s rose-colored stone. The long, beautiful, narrow passageway that leads people to the main sanctuary of Petra opens up and suddenly before you stands the Treasury. The suspense and then the sheer awe of the Treasury is why the place has been named one of the New 7 Wonders of the World and chosen by Smithsonian Magazine as one of the “28 Places to See Before You Die.” Touring around the rest of the park is an all day journey. Many hiking routes are quiet strenuous. One hike is over 900 uneven steps to see the Monastery, another behemoth structure. The local bedouins, many still living in Petra's caves, are constanly asking if you would like to make the trip easier by taking a camel or donkey on the journey. Just make sure your life insurance policy is up to date.
