Scott Bergstein and I took a road trip to a town outside Naples called Caserta to see the Royal Palace of Caserta built by the Bourbon kings of Naples. Not only was the Palace stunning it also had amazing gardens, fountains, and waterfalls. Not sure why this place is not on more visitors list. It was built in the mid-18th century to rival Versailles and the Royal Palace in Madrid. In fact, the Queen of the Palace Caserta, Maria Carolina, was Marie Antoinette's sister. Wonder if there was some sibling rivalry?! Today the site is an UNESCO World Heritage site. Also, scenes from Star Wars, Mission: Impossible III and Angels and Demons were filmed at this Palace.
