Macau, China was a Portuguese colony until 1999. The old town of Macau, which is now an UNESCO site, has many preserved, old colonial buildings, beautiful Portuguese sidewalks and the Portuguese food sold there is still very popular.
Just 64 km or an hour's ferry ride from Hong Kong, it is a nice side trip when visiting Hong Kong. Many people visit since it is the only place in China that casinos are legal. The new section of Macau resembles Las Vegas with even the same brands as MGM and Wynn Casinos represented.
