Perth, Australia
Perth, a vibrant city filled with the friendliest people, great restaurants and bars, and lots of art and culture is well worth the trip. Having read that Perth is the second most isolated capital city in the world and having met many Australians who have never even visited Perth, I was intrigued to find the city so modern, well planned and worldly.
The city’s gem, Kings Park, covers a massive park 4.06-square-kilometre that took us hours to just discover the highlights. The central business district of Perth is also a tourist dream: free wifi, free buses, fantastic signage, pedestrian only shopping streets, amazing street art, street performances, art museums, pop up festivals, parades and the list continues…The newly-developed area of Elizabeth Quay is also fun to wander through and a nice launching pad for exploring the Swan River on a boat cruise.
Just an hour's drive from downtown Perth is the National Park of Yanchep where you can see koalas up close and in the evening hours kangaroos gather there along with lots of noisy birds, ducks and other wildlife (thank goodness no snake sightings on this trip!).
About 2.5 hours from Perth is the Numbing National Park where the famous limestone rock formations called the Pinnacles are on display. It is an amazing site to experience. In between the two parks a fun activity is to sand board on the sand dunes. A lot like sledding but not as cold!
Part of the uniqueness of the Perth area is the diverse landscape within just a few hour’s drive from the downtown area. Perth is an area that will stun you with its beauty and unexpectedness.
